Community Development

We create places of connection, where people can come together, get involved, and feel a sense of belonging.

All of our community houses are based within Gateshead in areas experiencing challenges that local people want to change. Each community project is developed, planned and run by a group of local people who make decisions together. We encourage everyone to reach their full potential, providing facilities and activities that enrich our community life.

We provide safe spaces where local people can pop in for a cuppa and a chat. Sometimes local people are seeking support and they know and trust that our staff will help them to access this. With the support of our volunteers, and partners, we have engaged thousands of individuals through our community houses.

We are extremely grateful to our funders whose generous support funds our life changing work.

Edberts House

Edberts House was our first community house based in the heart of the High Lanes estate. Today, our house continues to offer thriving toddler’s and children’s groups, regular trips, homemade community lunches, access to educational courses and lots more. We regularly host large events and celebrations and our rooms are available for hire. We warmly welcome everyone. Check out our Facebook page for our current timetable.

Pattinson House

Pattinson House is our Local Conversation project on the Old Fold and Nest Estates. We offer lots of activities for all ages, including busy toddler groups, a local community run library, a creative and active youth club. We care about our local environment and organise regular litter picks and opportunities for local people to get involved. Come and check out our pizzas and Sunday lunch offer. You can also hire our space. All of our activities and food offers are updated on our Facebook page.

Larkspur House

Larkspur House is nestled in the heart of the community at Beacon Lough East. There are lots of activities that are accessible to everyone, including fitness classes, craft sessions, a community allotment and youth clubs. Our regular community market, which is growing all the time, has a number of stalls run by local people offering food, crafts and fun. We provide drop-ins from a variety of partners such as the Police, Gateshead Council, Housing, North East Counselling Services, Citizens Advice Gateshead and other services that the community benefits from. Highfield House

Highfield House is our newest community house based on the Pipebridge estate in Highfield. We are in the process of developing a timetable of activities, including an ever-growing toddler group, fitness fun and supportive family sessions. We are listening to our community, and getting to know local partners so we can respond to local need and bring people together.
